The bubbly, stargazing “Logan Valley girl”
TaKia Woodson ‐ also known as just “TaKia” ‐ is a rare find among today’s urban music landscape. The angelic‐faced, native Philadelphia beauty reaches for both the sultry and the sweet in her diverse material, where, as a triple‐threat, she writes, arranges, and above all else, she sings. R&B, Soul, and Pop artist TaKia is a bi‐product of the internationally heralded ‘Sound of Philadelphia,’ and her influences shine through in her earthy yet Pop‐tinged, melodic vocals.
“I was a kid when I got introduced to music, so I used to sing first and then I started writing songs when I was very young. I used to record my songs on…cassette tapes!” TaKia recalls with a smile about her throwback days. As a recent signee to T.U.B. Records, TaKia is growing beyond her songwriting into a fullfledged artist, developed by Mars Co‐op, an offshoot of Philly’s legendary Hip‐Hop band, The Roots. Says the singer/songwriter,
“I didn’t want to have to just work and dream about being a singer; I wanted to be a singer…by doing that, I’m an example, a walking testimony of how graceful God is.”
Alongside her label mates, including Malik B of The Roots fame, D‐N‐A, and Mars Co‐op, TaKia stands strong as the First Lady of T.U.B. And, in a landscape where other urban, female artists ride just one lanTaKia is set to release of a mixtape of original songs laced with familiar rap beats from the past. Later in the year, she’ll release an EP along with her debut album on T.U.B. Records. In addition, TaKia’s passion is to reach out and inspire children ‐ drawing from her own personal experiences, she has a heartfelt message to share with young girls and beyond…Be Your Own Doll™. “Light attracts light,” witnesses TaKia. “That’s the Universal Law I live by.”
Music lovers have waited for so long for a new voice to emerge from the cookie cutter masses. Longtime fans will be proud to see TaKia finally get her solo shine, and new listeners should plan to become instant fans of the best female voice to emerge from Philly since Jill Scott…
Experience TaKia for yourself in 2013 on T.U.B. Records.e, she cruises, adding her Hip‐Hop flavor to the mix as just one of many styles she has mastered. Surprisingly, the soulful singer also draws from alternative artists such as Tori Amos, The Doors, and Fleetwood Mac, who according to her, “made me a weirdo among my friends in my neighborhood growing up.”
TaKia says her own vocal talents are God‐given, coupled with self‐taught musical arrangement and years of experience gained under top producers like Jim Bean and Black Key. After previous stints in an all‐girl group with Philadelphia femcee Ms. Jade, and polishing the hooks of rappers from Havoc of Mobb Deep to Memphis Bleek to Peedi Crakk, Jimme Wallstreet, Gillie Da Kid, and more, TaKia is set to spread her wings in 2013.
TaKia is set to release of her 1st single “Be Careful Luv” with a B’ side track slow jam “Ur Luv”(wow) In july of 2013 along with a mix cd Titled “Street Symphonies From Takia Voice vol1” Where she sings over classic Hip-hop instrumentals from Snoop Dogg, Notorious B.I.G., The Lox, A Tribe Called Quest, & more… Stay tuned…
